This is why you see on here, so many times, people trying to download iMovie 10.1.6 for El Capitan. IMovie 8 or 9 not fully compatible with El Capitan and you can't get iMovie 10. You are now between a rock and a hard place. In order to continue with iMovie, you try to upgrade iMovie to version 10 only to receive the message from the App Store that you need OS 10.13.6 or later in order to download it. Then you discover that your iMovie 8 or 9 is not fully compatible with El Capitan as evidenced on these forums. You discover that your Mac can be upgraded to El Capitan for Free so thats what you do. You may be in the same situation as many others who have been running iMovie ver 8 or 9 (aka iMovie '09 or '11) on an OS previous to El Capitan say Snow Leopard ,Lion or Mountain Lion. I am assuming that you cannot upgrade your OS further than El Capitan. It will only show up in your Purchased page if it ( iMovie 10.x.x) came installed on your Mac when bought or you have downloaded since.
